Hospitality Training through gamification: A beta project

So, I’ve been toying with the idea of developing an eLearning experience that records only interactions.  Imagine training your staff through case scenarios that are presented in game format, no need for boring static content and making your new hires solve situations through simulations of the real world.

Is currently just a beta project for me (meaning I beta finish it) but, it’s exciting to use Articulate Storyline and Adobe Captivate in this fashion without having to commit to Flash programming.

So, we begin with a hotel lobby and no apparent controls but, three directional arrows on center stage.  Since we are dealing with adult learners, we are expecting self-directed learning and natural navigation by curiosity.  At this point, we are focusing on interaction and exploration of concepts instead of throwing a list of well-crafted learning objectives.

Customer Xperience

As the learner manages to approach the front desk, a case presentation occurs giving the learner the opportunity to select the most appropriate facial expression to greet the customer.  The shapes are assigned variables so the eLearning module can capture what poor decisions learners are making in terms of preserving customer loyalty and providing exceptional customer service.  Currently, functionality is limited to navigation but nonetheless; here’s a sneak peek:
